The idea
of the race

The aim is to navigate the course as fast as possible, visiting the control points in their numerical order. The finish line must be reached within the time limit (50/25/6 hours).

Teams travel the course using muscle power only. A packraft or some other human powered watercraft is obligatory when moving on the water.

The whole team travels together at all times and carries all the equipment needed by themselves.

The fastest team to visit all the control points and to cross the finish line wins.

  • If no team is able to finish the whole course in the 100 hour time period, the team that finds the most control points wins.

  • If several teams find the same amount of controls, the first of them to cross the finish line wins.

Event info

There will be a short info near the starting point an hour before the start (on Friday and on Saturday).

There you will be provided with more information about the race, as well as all the material needed for the race. At the end of the event info you are free to ask questions about the race. You can also send your questions in advance to: info [at] kairacross.fi

THE MAP

The map is based on topographic map material by the National Land Survey of Finland. The same material is used eg. in Kansalaisen Karttapaikka map.

All maps are printed on water resistant material, but a map case is still needed.

The race maps are handed out to teams when the race begins.

Mobile phone

All participants must have a functional mobile phone (packed waterproof) with them for safety reasons. We also recommend bringing a power bank.

You are free to use your mobile phone during the race. We strongly recommend you to share your best pictures on social media – perhaps even when the race is still ongoing.

Please use hashtags #kairacrosssaimaa (3 consecutive s letters) and #kairacross.
