Kairacross Vätsäri is a true wilderness adventure. Involving navigation by foot and packraft, the adventure offers a demanding challenge even for experienced athletes.

Vätsäri is one of the most remote wilderness areas in Finland with virtually no well-beaten paths. Thus, to experience the extreme peace of nature, previous hiking experience is required.

Vätsäri is the most lake-dense area of the country making it exceptionally well suited for packrafting.

Course

The course is approximately 300 kilometers long (as the crow flies) and includes 20–30 control points.

The aim is to travel the course as far as possible and return before the set finish time.

Kairacross Vätsäri is suitable for ordinary hikers and endurance enthusiasts who want to challenge themselves and enjoy the great outdoors.

The prerequisite for participation is the ability to survive on your own in the wilderness for at least three days.

The event is timed and results are generated to motivate the more competitive.

Classes

Kairacross Vätsäri 2022 has classes for men's, women's or mixed teams of at least two people.

The age limit is 18 years. A person over the age of 16 can participate in the same team as his/her own parent.

VENUE

The organizers provide no insurance to cover the participants. We recommend personal health insurance that includes participation in events in this type of terrain.

Every team will get a GPS tracker so that race can be followed on the internet.
