Kairacross is a team sport that includes land and water navigation by foot and packraft.

on water

Usually at least half of the kairacross route involves travel on bodies of flat water or calmly flowing rivers. There may also be some rapids, but there is always an option go around them.

Inflatable, durable and lightweight packraft is perfect vehicle for exploring areas where you have to change the mode of movement often.

In addition to the packraft, a paddle, life jacket as well as basic paddling and hiking gear is needed.

on land

With the packraft stowed in your backpack, you are ready to hike. Packrafts are compact and light enough to be carried even for extended distances.

Hiking sections take you to spectacular scenery including the finest attractions in the area – often places that you wouldn’t find yourself.

Kairacross events typically take place in wildernesses or other remote areas. Urban environments could however also provide interesting venues for future events.

Relaxed adventure

Although kairacross is a sport, it is more of a means to enjoy the nature and great outdoors.

The events are relaxed so if you get tired during the race, just find a nice spot, eat something and enjoy the scenery. It’s not so serious – unless you want it to be.

Even if you don’t aim for the win, it often pays to push yourself a little bit more than normally. It intensifies the experience in the nature – food tastes better, scenery looks more impressive and team spirit is strengthened. You feel more alive.

Various events

The first Kairacross ever was arranged in June 2021. Kairacross Vätsäri 2021 was a quite demanding 3 or 5 day adventure in arctic wilderness of Vätsäri. From these photos you can see what it was like in Vätsäri.

In July 2021 was arranged Kairacross Ylläs 2021, a easier 3–24 hour race that had courses suitable even for kids. See the photos of the race in Pallas Yllästunturi National park.
