1. Why did you decide to register to this race?
Heli had a good experiences from Lapland Wilderness Challenge 2020, and now also the possibility of moving around the waters with a packraft increased the interest.
Decades of hiking experience inspired us to try something new.
2. What kind of trip you expect Kairacross Vätsäri to be?
Beautiful check point locations – that we will find easily (or not...), nice experiences and perhaps also mosquitoes and sunshine. Packraft will hopefully make it possible to see Vatsäri faster than walking on the boulder fields and we hope the ship will remain intact throughout the race.
3. Tell something about your team. What does the name stand for?
The name Cloudberry Pickers was already in use in LWC 2020. The same relaxation and possible back-and-forth of the GPS signal can also be explained by deviations from a suitable cloudberry swamp.
4. What is the longest paddling/packrafting trip you have made? What was it like?
The longest trip we've made together is a four-day canoeing about 15 years ago in the Ruunaa–Jongunjoki area. However, not all the rapids were run.
5. What’s your goal in Kairacross Vätsäri?
Reach the finish line within the deadline and find a few check points on the way. Enjoy the atmosphere of the wilderness, the challenges and survive the race among mosquito flocks.

1. Mikä sai teidät ilmoittautumaan tähän kisaan?
Helillä oli LWC:stä hyvä kisakokemus vuodelta 2019, nyt kiehtoi entistä enemmän mahdollisuus liikkua myös vesillä packraftillä.
Vuosikymmenien yhteinen retkeilykokemus innosti kokeilemaan myös uutta!
2. Mitä odotatte kisalta?
Komeita rastipaikkoja, jotka löydämme suorilta (tai sitten ei...), kokemuksia ja elämyksiä, ehkä myös hyttysiä ja auringonpaistetta. Packraft toivottavasti mahdollistaa Vätsärin näkemisen kivikossa kulkemista nopeammin ja toivomme, että alus pysyy ehjänä koko kisan ajan.
3. Kertokaa jotain joukkueestanne. Mistä joukkueen nimi tulee?
Hillastajat (cloudberry pickers) nimi oli jo käytössä ensimmäisessä LWC:ssä. Sama rentous ja mahdollinen gps-signaalin edestakaisuus voi selittyä myös sopivalle lakkasuolle poikkeamisella.
4. Mikä on pisin yksin tai yhdessä tekemänne melonta- tai packraftäysreissu?
Pisin yhdessä tekemämme reissu on reilun neljän päivän melonta noin 15 vuotta sitten Ruunaa–Jongunjoki -seudulla. Ihan kaikkia koskia ei kuitenkaan laskettu.
5. Mikä on tavoitteenne Kairacross Vätsärissä?
Ehtiä määräajassa maaliin ja löytää matkalla muutama rasti. Nauttia erämaan tunnelmasta, haasteista ja selvitä kisasta hyttysparvien keskellä.
